“What’s in it for you?”
The two sat at a small table outside an empty coffee shop, sipping at their drinks and talking as if they were old friends. Grey looked up after taking a crumbling bite of his coffee cake. He tried to speak, but his mouth was too full, sending bits of crumbs spilling to the table. Embarrassed, he finished chewing, swallowed, and went on.
“Come on now. Let’s not play games. I’m not like the others, as you already know. How many of the others would be sitting here having a rational conversation with you?”
“Not many, I guess. Still. There still must be something in this for you.”
“Of course there is!” Grey took another sip of his mocha. “I’m a super villain. Helping you become normal takes you off my list of threats.”
